• Does President Obama’s 2nd Inauguration Have Anything To Do With Spanish?

(PRWEB) January 20, 2013 Some believe that part of President Obama’s win came after wooing the Spanish vote. Back in 2008, President Obama began to reach out to Hispanics as he said, campaigning to English speakers, “You need to make sure your child can speak Spanish,” and that, “we should have every child speaking more than one language.” Next, in 2012, President Obama not only outspent Mitt Romney reaching out to Hispanic voters, he had more widely accepted policies on immigration. He also took the time to practice Spanish, and with a surprisingly good Spanish accent, campaigned directly to Hispanics. It comes as no surprise that President Obama did so well among Hispanic voters and won a second term. “We’re honored to have a President who puts such an emphasis on language learning and …

  • LearnALanguage.com Will Disrupt the Language-Learning Industry

(PRWEB) January 21, 2013 On Monday, January 21st, LearnALanguage.com plans to release the beta version of its language-learning courses. These courses, which have been taught in over 130 countries, at schools and major corporations are now entirely free. The company believes that people are paying far too much to learn a new language. “The reality is, with the evolution of the internet, things that used to cost money are now completely free. If people can get encyclopedias, dictionaries, personalized music, children’s learning games and video games free on the internet, there is no reason that language learning shouldn’t be free as well,” remarked Dave Clark, CEO of LearnALanguage.com. The new learning system is offered in Spanish, French, Italian, German, Japanese, Chinese and Russian. The company aims to help individuals stay motivated with …

  • New Year’s Resolutions for 2013 – Tips

What are your New Year’s resolutions for 2013?  A resolution is a resolve or determination to do something. To me, that means if I’m not going to take it seriously, it’s better to not call it a resolution (call it a wish or a dream).  Do you take your resolutions seriously? I believe that people are inherently good and that they want to improve their own lives and the lives of others. I want you to be resolved to achieve your goals in 2013, just like I want the same for myself. I am a firm believer that life is to be enjoyed, not just endured. Many of you will find that the greatest joys you will find come from spending time with those you love, learning, growing and serving …

  • 3 Tips on Gift-giving for the Holidays

As Christmas comes to town it is tradition in most parts of the world to give gifts to family and friends. For me, it can be a bit of a struggle to find the right gift for everyone. I have spent a considerable amount of time pondering about what the right gift might be for the people I’m close to. Here are a few tips that have helped me become a better gift-giver: Give something meaningful. What is meaningful for one person may not be meaningful for the next person. What do they want? What do they need? I can’t be too specific because everyone is different; however, one gift that was meaningful to my father was giving him a subscription to lynda.com so that he could learn to use …

  • Why I’m Thankful for Learning Spanish

Every year around Thanksgiving I take time to reflect about the things for which I am thankful. You can bet that I am grateful for the opportunity to learn Spanish. Learning Spanish has opened doors and provided me with opportunities I would not otherwise have. I met a Guatemalan man in Boston, Massachusetts on a work visa. His name is Eric Quixaj, and he became one of my great friends. We were able to take part in some service activities together and he has a giant heart. He has since returned to Guatemala and I have been unable to contact him, but the memories remain. I am certainly not the brightest star in the sky, but I do know that learning Spanish has sharpened my memory. I am under the …

  • Remember to Remember

The main reason that people give up on a goal is because they don’t remember it. I recall as a child writing down goals I wanted to accomplish for the upcoming year and sealing them in an envelope to be opened in 1 year. All I did was write down goals on a piece of paper and put them in an envelope. I forgot about the experience a few hours later and re-opened the envelope one year later. Do you think I did well on my goals? Nope, I really hadn’t done much to accomplish the goals I had written down one year earlier. Recently I set a goal to wake up and stay up each morning when my alarm went off. It is especially difficult for me to wake …

  • Chinese Birth Year Signs

Have you ever wondered what your Chinese birth year sign is? Well first of all, what are these signs? You’ve probably seen these signs, also known as Chinese zodiac or astrology signs, when you go to a Chinese restaurant. A printed sheet of paper, used as a place mat, shows twelve animals and has a brief explanation of each. You are assigned an animal depending on which year you were born in. This is about the extent most of us look into these signs. Oh man, was I surprised when I looked into my own sign a little more… My zodiac sign is the Tiger. I’m not convinced these signs are a real predictor, but I was blown away when I read a complete description of those born in the year of …

  • Why Can’t Learning Be Fun?

Why can’t learning be fun? When I look back at my K-12 and college days, I think about a lot of sleepy, boring classes. At the same time, I think about some of the great things that I have learned and creative ways in which they have been taught. There have been plenty of fun games that have reinforced lessons learned. I’m not saying that education is going to be a party all the time. Sometimes it’s going to be boring and you have to power through and do the best you can. Here at LearnALanguage.com we aim to keep you awake, alert, having fun and learning as much as possible. We don’t want you to be saying ‘how boring’ in Italian out loud when you are learning Italian. The …

  • Best Way to Learn a Foreign Language

The best way to learn a foreign language is to live where that language is spoken so that you are completely immersed in the language. That means that you speak and listen to your new language all day everyday. There is NO better way. When a language website or company tells you that they have the best way, understand that they’re saying that it’s the best way other than complete immersion. Most people do not have the opportunity to be completely immersed in a new language by living in a foreign country. The good news is that there are other ways you can learn. Before I tell you about a few of those other ways, I’d like to tell you something important:  For MOST people, language acquisition does not come …
